Black Jack Cross Country Ski Club boasts 40 kms of professionally groomed trails for classic and skate skiing, a Biathlon range, a 2 km doggy loop, 3 cozy cabins, and 2.5 kms of lit trails. It’s a blue chip experience on a white chip budget, all only 4 minutes north of town.
Improvements for 2013-14 — Black Jack’s 30th year in operation — include significant upgrades to the trail system that will result in both earlier skiing and better skiing for the season. Heavy work on areas such as Gibbard’s Trail to Torresan’s Cabin means that puddles, ruts and trail closures early season should be a game of the past. (No more “glidin’ dirty!”) The veritable XC club of 700+ members also reconnected and reopened Ophir Trail, a breathtaking climb with views of the Rossland Range that’ll take (what’s left of) your breath away.
And, if you have a quiver of cowbells in your closet — or a wax kit worth more than your car — Black Jack will once again host world class races this year. The improved trails will be on full display for the Haywood NorAm and Junior/U23 World Championship Trials this December, when hundreds of the top XC skiers from across North America will be descending upon the region.
Come and find out what the world’s best Nordic athletes already know: Black Jack is one of Canada’s premier facilities with programs for all ages and abilities.
