WHO’S IT FOR?

Making the Grade caters to a diversity of intermediate and advanced level runners as we offer both short and long distances to choose from. You don’t necessarily need to be an experienced trail runner to participate in our camp, however you do need to meet the minimum requirements in order to show up well prepared and get the most value out of the weekend! See below how we break down the options and requirements for our participants!

WHAT’S THE BEST FIT FOR YOU?

Our camp schedule allows you to choose between short and long distances every day to build the camp to suit your goals and fitness levels. We make sure to plan the routes so that a portion of every run, we can all meet at a summit, run sections together and/or time our finishes together.

SHORT DISTANCE

The short distance group will cover approx. 60km over 4 days. Two days will be 10-12km and two days will be approx. 20-25km. This includes some fast hiking on the run days. The fourth day you have the option to hike only, allowing you to prepare for two 10-12km runs and one 20-25km run.

SHORT DISTANCE PREREQUISITE

Runners in this group need to ensure they hit a minimum weekly run volume of 40km (or approx. 6-8hrs) before the start of the camp. Please note that one day of the camp the group will be running the 25km Broken Goat course, so participants need to be trained to cover this distance.

LONG DISTANCE

The long distance group will cover approx. 85-95km over 4 days. The first evening is a 10-12km run with some technique focus and the next three days will vary from 25-35km.

LONG DISTANCE PREREQUISITE

Runners in this group need to ensure they hit a minimum weekly run volume of 50-80km (or approx. 8-10hrs) before the start of the camp. Your training volume before the camp depends on how you want to break the 4 days of running up. For example, you might want to run two short and two long days.

*Please note that these distances are approximate and they may change due to trail conditions or weather.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN?

Motivation. Before camp starts you can up your weekly volume to show up in great shape. We’ll take you even higher.

Only runners really “get” runners. Meet like-minded people from all over the world and then chase them through the Canadian wilderness.

Couldn’t you use a vacation that’s more about fun and fitness than just food and flipping through your phone? We thought so…

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

DELICIOUS FOOD

We take care of breakfast and dinner every day of camp. Don’t worry! We know that food quality can make or break your trip and we’re food snobs, too.

AFTERNOON YOGA

Keep those hammies long and limber for Day 2 with afternoon yoga — even if you don’t know the difference between a Low Cobra and Down Dog.

OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT

A fine flick under the immense Canadian sky with your new best friends is a great way to relax. (Cold beer optional but recommended.)

DOWNHILL TRAIL WORKSHOP

Sure, our uphills will stretch your cardio capacity but it’s all useless unless you can descend the other side safely and in style. (Your knees just texted us and signed you up!)

THE LATE-LATE SHOW

We’ll have a roundup of the day’s gains every night of camp to help assess the group’s progress and plan for tomorrow.

VIDEO DEBRIEF & NEXT DAY LOOK

“Show, don’t tell.” Our video sessions are sometimes a rude awakening but we guarantee they’ll help you become a better runner.
