What is the Mountain Project?

The Mountain Project
The Mountain ProjectThe Mountain Project (TMP) is a new initiative dedicated to innovation and sustainability in the mountain environment. TMP was conceived to create community among athletes and artists, guides and enthusiasts, designers and users, with the aim of cultivating and sharing first-hand knowledge of Kootenay life.

Red Mountain Resort, the heritage resort of the Pacific Northwest, known for its spiritual powder experience and legendary steeps, is the ideal setting for this venture showcasing the best of mountain life. You can see more about what TMP has spearheaded at TMP's site - http://www.themtnproject.com
TMP Headquarters
As a home for the TMP vision, Red Mountain has constructed a headquarters building located at the base of the Silverlode lift. Designed by Bozeman architecture firm zimtor architecture, TMP headquarters is intended to be an icon bringing together elements of vernacular and contemporary aesthetics.

TMP Headquarters houses the Snowsports School and Guides Office. The Guides Office offers backcountry guiding services, avalanche clinics, winter routefinding, and other skill programs that allow you to use Red as a training ground for wilderness experience.
Founding Partners and TMP Test Center
TMP is proud to have the support of three founding partners known for their heritage and technical innovation: K2 SKIS, GORE-TEX, and AUSTRALIAN WOOL INNOVATION. TMP is an interactive test center for these brands to test new equipment and concepts with real users in live situations.

Supporting partners include Studio411, SPL, DaKine, Smith Optics, I/O Biocompatibles, and Tulikivi. See our Partners page.
Connecting Mountain People
TMP forms a virtual meeting place and online forum for locals to connect with like-minded people. Look for profiles, interviews and interactive access soon.
IROC (Independent Resort Owners Coalition)
TMP's growth amongst mega-resorts is beginning to find resonance in Europe and elsewhere. Other resorts are beginning to take notice and there is a growing momentum to form an Independent Resort Owners Coalition to preserve the character and ‘funkiness’ of cult ski areas. Treble Cone Resort in Wanaka, New Zealand, the cult resort of the Pacific Southwest (as Red is the cult resort of the Pacific Northwest) may become the second TMP member, with a European resort to follow in 2009.
