NEW Trails for Mountain Bikers to Open This Summer As Effort Continues to Expand RED and Rossland’s Incredible System.

ROSSLAND, BC, CANADA

Construction is underway on the Millennial Trail Expansion: Three loops totaling 5.8kms of all-new mountain biking trails branching out from the base of RED Mountain. The new trails will hit all the notes from Beginner to Expert and will only add to Rossland’s reputation as Canada’s true MTB Mecca.

“We’ve been working with the Trail Society on the design and funding of this extension for over a year, so we are excited that it will be ready for riders by late summer,” says Don Thompson, President at RED. “We believe that our community will love this new addition to an already amazing Rossland trail network.”

As with any game-changing land use idea, the funding was a joint effort: RED Mountain Resort, The Kootenay Columbia Trail Society (KCTS), Columbia Basin Trust, BC Rural Development, and Tourism Rossland through the Resort Municipality Initiative, together, raised $112,000 to help make this development happen. The project was initiated and is being managed by the KCTS, and have contracted with Lifetime Outdoor to finalize the design and undertake construction of the trails.

The extension encompasses a total of 5.8kms of new trails with a focus on flow, fun, and variety. There will be a 2.2km climbing trail to the top, a 1.4km XC loop connecting from the mid-point, as well as various connections to and from existing Paydirt trails. The crowning glory might just be the 1.8km “bike park style” flow trail descent that consists of an advanced upper section and a more intermediate lower section.

“This type of machine-built flow trail is something our users have been asking for, so, with the help of all of our partners, it’s exciting to see it all finally coming together,” says Stewart Spooner, KCTS Operations Manager.

With work already underway, keep your eyes on RED/Tourism Rossland socials to make sure you don’t miss opening day (because that’s a mistake you can only make once). The new trails just go to show that, around here, there is no off-season—just an “off-road” season.
