Background Information:
I have been skiing at Red Mountain since I first learned to ski when I was about 3 years old. When my dad was holding on to the training straps to keep me from speeding away, my parents never imagined that skiing would evolve into my lifetime passion. I live to ski. I especially love to ski Red Mountain because of its endless terrain and deep snow.

My first love is freestyle skiing. I have participated in ski comps since 2014. I love to get out in the snow, build jumps and generally huck myself off whatever I can. I have been filming my adventures over the years and hope to carry this forward in my career.

Goals: My goal is to be able to pursue my skiing career year ‘round.

hillisName: Simon Hillis

Hometown:: Rossland, B.C.

Current Ski Resort: Red Mountain Resort, of course! Shred the POW!

Age: 14

Born: Bali, Indonesia

Background Information:
Great things come in small packages. Born in Bali Indonesia, Simon moved to Rossland with his family at the age of three and by the end of his first season on skis, the pint-sized Simon had savvy locals talking about his picture-perfect technique and his relentless hunger to be on his skis all day every day.

Simon spent the next three years dragging his dad around the mountain while also competing in the Nancy Greene Ski League, but steep trees and big air have always been his passion.

During the 09/10 ski season – at the ripe old age of seven – Simon was finally old enough to enter the Junior freeskiing ranks. He became Red Mountain’s youngest ever sponsored team athlete and made a powerful first impression on the Junior Freeskiing circuit, competing against kids four years older. In his debut season, Simon finished third at the Canadian Junior Championships at Red Mountain, third at Fernie’s Freeski Comp, and then topped off his year by winning Red Mountain’s Freeriders Open.

This summer, Simon finally grew enough to graduate from his one buckle toddler’s boots to a proper child’s ski boot, so now the sky’s the limit. To see Simon’s form for yourself, check out the cover of the November issue of SKI Magazine.

To go heli and cal skiing as soon as possible, to get on the cover of Powder Magazine and to ski like Dane Tudor

SoleilName: Soleil Patterson

Hometown: Rossland, BC

Current Ski Resort: Red Mountain Resort

Occupation: Alpine Ski Racer

Background Information:

Soleil Patterson grew up in Rossland B.C., skiing at Red Mountain. She is currently on the BC Ski Team, representing the Red Mountain Racers, Growing up in the Kootenay’s (where people support her goals) as a ski racer has taught her so much, from cooperation with peers to self discipline and drive in all aspects of her life.

Soleil has competed in FIS and Nor Am races with the B.C. Ski Team over the last seasons and it has been both rewarding and challenging for her. Unfortunately, just as the team was beginning their summer training in Whistler, Soleil suffered a tibia fibula break, a partial tear of the MCL, and ligament damage in her ankle; which led to surgery and a long recovery. Without overlooking her setback, the Rossland local has big aspirations and goals for the 2018/2019 ski season. Contrary to what some people think, Soleil is still super keen to buckle down her boots, click into her skis and immerse herself back into the crazy sport we all love.

In preparation for the 2018/19 race season she will again have the opportunity to train at the level required to compete nationally and internationally. This upcoming season her aim is for strong results on the FIS and NorAm Circuit, part of her long term goal to compete on the world cup tour and eventually race the Cortina (ITA) Worldcup Downhill. Competing as part of our Canadian Alpine Ski Team representing; Canada, British Columbia and of course her home ski area; RED Mountain Resort, is something she is confident that she can achieve.

Highlights from last season:
4th place finish in Lake Louise Downhill NorAm
3rd place finish in the Lake Louise Canadian Championship Downhill
7th in Downhill standings for the Noram Cup
1st overall U19 National Champion
