FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 26, 2016 ROSSLAND, BC, CANADA

RED Mountain’s Legacy Training Centre has been designated The National Ski Academy’s ‘Official Western Canadian Training Centre’.

We are proud to announce that RED Mountain’s Legacy Training Centre has been designated The National Ski Academy’s ‘Official Western Canadian Training Centre’. RED Mountain and Rossland are steeped in skiing history, tradition, and culture dating back to the late 1800’s. In 1968 RED hosted the first World Cup race ever held in Canada.

The Red Mountain Racers and the Red Mountain Academy are one of the most successful alpine ski clubs in North America. Red Mountain Racers have won 2 Olympic Gold Medals, 1 Olympic Silver Medal, 2 World Cup Overall Titles, 27 World Cup Medals and 1 World Junior Championship Gold Medal. To date 38 of its alumni have raced for either the Canadian or US National Ski Teams and 13 have raced at the Olympics. The club has also hosted 2 World Cups and 27 National Championships.

The history of racing at RED coupled with the NSA’s 30 years of developing the Ontario and National Team(s) ski racers made this partnership a natural fit.

Nigel Cooper, Director of Operations, with the NSA stated, “The student athletes and staff at the National Ski Academy are excited and proud of our new and long-term partnership with RED Mountain. With a shared history of success in ski racing and educating student athletes, we are happy to go down this path for the next three years together.”

Christine Andison, Director of the Red Mountain Academy, stated that “the opportunity to work closely with the National Ski Academy to enhance the athletic and academic programming for both Academies will result in a superior experience for athletes in both programs. This is a pivotal partnership and we are looking forward to a dynamic relationship which will benefit the sport of ski racing in Canada and beyond.”

This year the National Ski Academy is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Jurg Gfeller, Executive Director, founding the NSA in Collingwood Ontario. Together we will continue the National Ski Academy’s mission to “provide an environment for talented student athletes to maximize individual potential through the pursuit of alpine ski racing excellence, academic achievement and personal growth.”

Matt Henry, Director of The Legacy Training Centre also commented on the partnership. “We couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with the NSA. Moving forward, we will collectively provide the ultimate environment to nurture athletic and academic growth for years to come!”

RED Mountain

RED is the last great, unspoiled resort. Located in Rossland, BC, 1st stop on Canada’s famous Powder Highway, RED delivers 2,877 acres of pristine, unfettered skiing. RED recently added nearly 1,000 acres of intermediate to advanced terrain on Grey Mountain. With 7.6m of annual snowfall, (cheap!) in-bounds cat-skiing, and the friendliest locals around, it’s no wonder The NY Times voted us their #8 “Best Place in the World to Visit in 2013.” Other recent wins include Powder’s “Ski Town Throwdown,” and “Most Underrated Resort” by Skiing. Fresh turns that you don’t have to fight for — that’s RED.

The National Ski Academy

The National Ski Academy (NSA) is a non-profit registered charity that was established in 1986 to provide an environment for student athletes to maximize individual potential through the pursuit of alpine ski racing excellence, academic achievement and personal growth. In 2010 the NSA became a Ministry of Education inspected private school, granting high school credits in Grades 9 to 12. Our home at 200 Oak Street in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada provides the facilities necessary for Canadian alpine athletes to pursue their ski racing dreams. The renovated 12,000 square foot Tornavene mansion offers classrooms, study hall, a gymnasium and weight room, tuning room, boarding for up to 35 student/athletes and a kitchen with a full time chef. Over the past 30 years, the NSA has offered integrated Academic/Fitness/Ski Racing programs with boarding as an option. These programs have helped to develop Ontario Ski Team, NCAA and Canadian Alpine Ski Team ski racers as well as many of the top coaches in the country. In addition to elite ski racing programs, the NSA prides itself on its comprehensive academic programs and “education that travels”. NSA graduating students have achieved a combined average of 84% over the past five years and gained acceptance and scholarships into some of the top Canadian and US universities.
