Mt. Kirkup Cat Ski

IT'S BACK! Every Saturday and Sunday once snow depths allow, hitch a ride from the summit of Grey Mountain in our snowcat, nicknamed the Trip Wagon, to the top of adjacent Mount Kirkup. You and 12 other guests will savour powder shredding with an incredible 2,054 foot vertical drop (626 meters) on runs that take you back to the Grey Chairlift, or even further down to the Topping Creek Chair! No avalanche gear required or guide needed. Hop back on the chair and do it all over again. Your legs will need the rest!

Mt Kirkup Runs 1 & 2 are Open for Hiking/Touring!
While we've made the tough decision to not operate the Mount Kirkup Snowcat for the remainder of this season, runs 1 and 2 (Dr. Feel Good & Free as a Bird) on Mount Kirkup are officially open for shredding! This advanced in-bounds and ski patrol-monitored terrain is a mellow hike or tour up, totally worth some great fresh tracks! Run 3 is still closed due to lack of coverage and current volume of hazards.

Please watch for marked and unmarked hazards, especially on the lower mountain.

Note: For those of you who purchased Mt Kirkup Cat tickets this winter, they will be valid for next season as well.

We Love To Hear It Purrr...

The Trip Wagon is back as the perfect opportunity for the advanced skier/rider to experience pay-per-run cat skiing!

Even hardcore office “dog persons” love cat skiing. Who wouldn’t? Hop in our Pisten Bully 200 snowcat’s spacious cabin and zig-zag your way up the flanks of rugged Mt. Kirkup. Fun, right? But the ride up is nothing compared to the whooping, laughing, tears-of-joy ride down as you fully immerse yourself in the powder that made us famous. All starting at just fifteen bucks a run with no reservations required.

The Mt Kirkup Cat operates every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm, weather permitting.

Pick up your pre-purchased Mt Kirkup Cat Ski Tickets at the RED Base Lodge Ticket Windows or Guest Services.

Mt. Kirkup FAQ

When does the Mt. Kirkup Cat operate?

The Mt Kirkup Cat operates every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm. Operations generally start around mid-January, conditions permitting. Please know there are no refunds for unused Kirkup Cat tickets.

What is the terrain like & what ability level is required?

The terrain in the Mt. Kirkup area provides our guests with open runs, tree skiing and rolling advanced terrain. Skiers and snowboarders should be able to make strong carving turns on all blue and black ungroomed runs. All riders should be capable of short turns, adapting to varied terrain including off-piste trees, powder and more complex terrain. All riders must also be able to shout to their friends, like, five times per run, “Dude! Did you see me?!”

How many cats do you operate per day?

We operate one cat per day which will make approximately 6-8 trips per day. Directions for pick up are available in our Cat Skiing brochure. Services provided include ski patrol, avalanche control, end of the day sweeping inbounds and out-of-bounds signage and route mapping.

How much vertical should I expect in a day?

RED Mountain Resort offers 2,919 ft. of vertical. The Mt. Kirkup Cat provides access to approximately 2,054 ft. of vertical over nearly 200 acres of gladed tree skiing, inclusive of an additional three newly cut runs on the south side of Mt. Kirkup.

How do I make a reservation?

No reservations required for the cat ski. Simply purchase your ticket at The Base Lodge or ski up to the snow cat and purchase a ticket (cash only) from the attendant who will ensure you have all the information you need and prepare you for your Cat Skiing trip up Mt. Kirkup. Remember those big, red “EASY” buttons? Let’s just say we were inspired...

Is there a Mt. Kirkup Trail Map?

Yes. The Mt. Kirkup trail map is the map shown above. A Mt. Kirkup Trail Map will be available at our Guest Services desk or from the attendant on the Cat.

This Could Be You!

Or we should say “will be you” because we know you won’t pass up fresh tracks...
