A perfect opportunity for the Advanced Skier to experience Cat Skiing!
RED’s 2016-17 season will give you the incredibly unique opportunity to experience cat skiing without breaking the bank! We have a Pisten Bully 200 snowcat with a spacious cabin that will swiftly shuttle skiers up to newly cut runs on Mt Kirkup that aren’t accessible by a chair lift. This is the perfect opportunity for our advanced skiers to experience cat skiing.
Is the Mt. Kirkup cat running every day?
Weather permitting, the cat will be operating from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm daily and Holidays.
What is the terrain like & what ability level is required?
The terrain in the Mt. Kirkup area provides our guests with open runs, tree skiing and rolling advanced terrain. Skiers and Snowboards should be able to make strong carving turns on all blue and black ungroomed runs. All skiers and riders should be capable of short turns, adapting to varied terrain including off-piste trees, powder and more complex terrain.
How many cats do you operate per day?
We operate one cat per day which will make approximately 6 trips per day. Directions for pick up are available in our Cat Skiing brochure. Services provided include ski patrol, avalanche control, end of the day sweeping inbounds and out of bounds signage and route mapping.
How much vertical should I expect in a day?
Red Mountain Resort offers 2,919 feet of vertical. The Mt. Kirkup Cat provides access to approximately 1,600 ft. of vertical over nearly 200 acres of gladed tree skiing, inclusive of an additional two newly cut runs on the south side of Mt. Kirkup.
Is there a Mt. Kirkup Trail Map?
Yes. A Mt. Kirkup Trail Map will be available at our Guest Services desk or from the attendant on the Cat.
