Time to bust out the Mountain Bike!

Shifting Gears

While it’s always a little sad when the lifts stop turning for the winter and the warm weather melts away our snowy playground, it’s comforting to know that we can get our fix flying down the mountain on two wheels instead of two planks. Rossland, Canada’s true MTB Mecca, has trails that hit all the notes from Beginner to Expert, not to mention the NEW Millennial Trail Expansion that took place last summer adding an additional 5.8km of trails to the Rossland MTB network. It’s time to pump up those tires and hit the trails!

NEW From 2020: The Millennial Trail Expansion

The Millennial Trail Expansion, three loops totaling 5.8kms of all-new mountain biking trails branching out from the base of RED Mountain, is now open for riding. This joint effort between RED Mountain Resort, The Kootenay Columbia Trail Society (KCTS), Columbia Basin Trust, BC Rural Development, and Tourism Rossland hits all the notes from Beginner to Expert and will only add to Rossland’s reputation as Canada’s true MTB Mecca.

The extension encompasses a total of 5.8kms of new trails with a focus on flow, fun, and variety. There is a 2.2km climbing trail to the top, a 1.4km XC loop connecting from the mid-point, as well as various connections to and from existing Paydirt trails. The crowning glory might just be Dragon Tail, the 1.8km “bike park style” flow trail descent that consists of an advanced upper section and a more intermediate lower section. Countless features are spread through Dragon Tail: step downs, step ups, rollers, a variety of different styled berms, table tops, hips, you name it, and you’ll probably find it!
